Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette captured the hearts of fans around the world earlier this year when she skated to an Olympic bronze medal in an emotional performance just days after the passing of her mother in Vancouver. “I am very honoured to be nominated for an ESPY award for Best Moment. This has been an incredible time in my life. When I go to Los Angeles for the ESPY awards show, I know I will have my mother with me in my heart. Thank you Canada for your support; you will never know how much you have helped me during these past few months.”

The ESPY Awards will take place July 14, 2010 live on ESPN in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre with red carpet starts at 7:00 p.m. Eastern and the show live at 9 p.m.

  3. Dear Joannie:
It is a pure joy to see your life taking on more and more meaning!
First, to see you at the G8 (Toronto) having lunch with all the wives of the G8 leaders. I believe you were next to mrs. Barack Obama.
Now to be voted in ESPY (LA), I see that you so deserved it. Joannie, you shared on your video biography that Ile Dupas is your “ground zero”. Well, with all this attention worldwide on you, always remain pure and simple and rooted in your “ground zero”. Your mother Therese is so proud of what you are accomplishing to this day. Congratulations.

  4. Dear Joannie,
I hope things are well with you. I was a volunteer at the games in Vancouver, and met you a few of the mornings at Trout lake( you asked one morning if there was any fish in the lake!!!!)
The day your mom passed away, I had just returned from Ontario after attending my moms funeral the day before. We found out in January that she had pancreatic cancer. She told me to go to the games, finish my committment. She died 6 weeks after finding out.
I was working at the gate your father and family arrived at, and my heart ached for all of you. The strength you had as I was able to watch both of your performances, was amazing and shows how strong of a person you are!!!
I imagine you miss your mom at the moments when no one would ever think you would. I miss my mom, but at least I have many good memories to remember….as do you!
You are an inspiration…..thank you for being so brave!
Continue on your great journey and all the very best of luck with your future, I will be watching and cheering!!!
    Merci Joannie!
